RE: Virginian RV Park, Jackson, WY

The first time we stayed there - around 1999 - it was an incredible $47 and (at the time) the most we had ever paid for a campsite. It still is the most convenient place to stay in Jackson. We were there with our dog once, and I don't recall any special rules. Gravel sites in grassy lawn. Nothing special at all - you are paying for location. (By the way, the attached restaurant is simply awful... but don't miss a margarita at the Merry Piglet in town.)

RE: Blue Ray ?

You are getting good advice here, Sea Dog. I am sure the BluRay will come down in price soon as I feel all DVDs will eventually move to BluRay.
We are getting a 42 inch HDTV in our new bus, with the HD satellite and a bluRay DVD player. I will up-to-date for at least a week... until the next new thing comes along.

Wouldn't you think the manufacturer would have made the closet deep enough for a standard hanger? You should complain!

RE: RV Parks in Eugene Oregon

Kim: Do you know that it rains every day in the winter in Eugene, Oregon? There are not many options for RV parks - we stay often at the Premier RV Resort on exit 199. They have a pool, but of course it is closed in the winter. Also, since it is on the freeway, it isn't exactly quiet. Have you heard of this place called Florida? Arizona?
I say this as a devout (and native) Oregonian.

RE: I-5, I-84, I-15 Tacoma to Phoenix

We have traveled that route many times. It is all major interstate so you won't have trouble finding fuel and there are a ton of campgrounds and RV parks along the way. Of course, since it is interstate freeway, there is also alot of trucker traffic. But, as freeways go - you have chosen some of the prettiest scenery in America!
Two of our favorite campspots are on this route - just east of Pendleton there is a nice campground at the Indian Casino called Wild Horse. They have a great golf course and it is always fun to do the Underground Tour of Pendleton.
Another great campground is Three Island Crossing State Park at Glenn's Ferry, Idaho.
Have a safe trip!

RE: Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies - Freeze Well?

Yes. Easy to do and I do it ALL the time with many cookie doughs. After making the dough, shape them into balls - whatever amount you would normally use for one cookie for that particular recipe. Place the balls on a plate/cookie sheet and freeze them until hard. Once hard you can put the balls into ziplock bags or freezer containers of any sort. Bake frozen, no need to thaw. You may/may not need an extra minute in the oven. Perfect for RV and perfect for smaller families that don't want/need several dozen cookies... you can bake them one (or one dozen) at a time if you want. Very convenient.

RE: Campgrounds in Mitchell,SD

I will also highly recommend the Lake Mitchell Campground. It is run by the city and is very close to town, yet completely rural and quiet and lush and green. We camped there in a 40' RV towing a car. (Well, "camped" is a relative word - they have full hook-ups!)

RE: San Francisco Area R.V. parks

The San Francisco RV Resort is south of the city. Very convenient short drive into the city and also close to a BART station if you don't want to take your car into the city (parking is expensive). Sites are tight - but you can get an ocean-view site which can be quite spectacular:

Tight-space camping in the Big City
Candlestick RV Park is (obviously) at Candlestick Park, so a bit closer to town. They cater to foreign travelers in rental campers, so offer shuttles/tours into the city. Friendly owners. Avoid this place during football season - not a problem, as they are fully booked for all home games.
The Petaluma KOA is the least convenient location - but better if you want to tour wine country. Old-fashioned campground and impossible to get your dish to lock-on to a satellite due to all the lovely shade trees. They have bus tours of the city from the campsites. Be aware this campground is on/next to a working farm. We stayed there once while they were fertilizing the fields with manure and the stench and flies were a little overwhelming. Barnyard birds cruise through the campground, so that is fun.
(By the way, if you are going to visit wine country, we always try to stay at the fairgrounds in Calistoga for the most convenient place to make day trips with the tow car.)
That's all I know.

RE: U.S. Open San Diego

We waited forever to get into the parking lot (using our tow vehicle) at Torrey Pines during the tourney... which seemed like a blink compared to the TWO HOURS we waited to get OUT of the parking lot. Never again. Take the shuttle.

RE: campgrounds around yosemite and seqouia NP

Yosemite is tough. Unless you stay in the park, you will have to do a lot of driving every day to get anywhere.
For a visit to Sequoia and Kings Canyon we stayed at Kaweah Park Resort in Three Rivers. Old-fashioned campground, but it is right on the river (two, in fact) and close to "town". Here is a link to photos of the campground and my travel blog (with some pretty good photos if I say so myownself) of our visit to the parks.
Have a safe trip!

I would be devastated! No matter if it is just a warning letter, you should write a letter and give them the link to your website so they know what "type of camper you really are".

RE: Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge) to Devils Tower - mileage

I don't recall route 14 being difficult. We did it in a 38-foot motorhome, towing a car. Here are some photos.
I remember seeing HUNDREDS of deer in groups of 30 or so all around the Devil's Tower area. BE CAREFUL.

RE: Mexico will be full of gringo RV'ers ...?

If fuel prices stay at these levels (and beyond) less people will be using their RVs and there will be empty sites all over the SW and Mexico next winter (and beyond).
